Instant On-Camera Review of “Cloverfield”

The wait is over. Shortly after the screening Tuesday night, Eric and J.D. recorded this “Cloverfield” Instant Review. It was the last time anyone has heard from either of them. Well, except J.D.’s print review. And, Eric’s Sundance blogs. OK, OK, we know where they are–just play along!

  1. Man nobody comments on your guys’s stuff? Thats weak, I just watched some of your guys’ vids and I think they are decent as well as informative.

Considering that we haven’t seen a monster movie romp since King Kong which I have to agree does NOT need to be 3 hours long… Jesus Pete, Lord of the Rings it isn’t… Cloverfield was a nice change of pace. Having said that I will have to agree on the shakyness of the entire film. It was so bad that they actually had to post a warning at our theater here in WA to warn people with motion sickness not to see the film. To me, that alone should get an award, I mean the last time I saw a warning posted by the theater was for Saving Private Ryan because apparently it was detrimental to were war veterans.

I don’t think Cloverfield was a bad movier, I mean you can’t really knock Mr. Abrams for trying something slightly inovative since Blair Witch. But I will say that it doesn’t feel “complete”, and I know thats really suppose to be the point of it but still I would have prefered a more flushed out storyline and plot. One thing you guy’s didn’t point out and I’m suprised you did is in the scene when they pulled the Rob character from the smoldering helo wreckage and Hud(which ironically stands for Heads Up Display) looks up to see the monster staring RIGHT DOWN AT THEM. Man, me and my freind about fell out of our chairs when we saw that, I mean… I understand that the people are trying to save their freind but don’t you think they might notice the giant building sized monster standing right there?

Anyways, all in all I thought Cloverfield was a decent flick, something different but definately not the hype everyone was thinkin it was going to be. Anyways, you guys keep up the good work :)

  2. Hilarious review, fellas. I think it says something that I enjoyed it a helluva lot more than the actual movie. My two cents, for what it’s worth. I’m pretty much in line with JD on this one, but appreciated the concept just enough to give it a net positive review.
