I forgot one more, but my I-pod shuffle reminded me today. For the soundtrack to Natural Born Killers, Trent Reznor pulled no punches and put together some amazing musical moments that fit the film perfectly. Rolling Leonard Cohen right into L7 - brilliant. The audio clips from the film weren't just tossed onto the CD as extra tracks (QT-style), but actually fit into the songs themselves. On both Something I Can Never Have and the Cowboy Junkies cover of "Sweet Jane" the dialogue added something extra. And of course, the aggressively deviant melding of Jane's Addiction's "Ted Just Admit It" with Diamanda Galas singing "I Put A Spell" on you is a mash-up that has yet to be equaled. The collection stands on its own and greatly enhanced a uniquely subversive film.

Of course, J.D's got it on his list. No repeats makes it more fun for everybody!

There is no better soundtrack than the one for High Fidelity.
It was a movie about awesome music, for God's sake.
Shame.

No "Flash Gordon" by Queen? The combination of synths and rockin' is pretty incredible and it raises the movie (not a film by any stretch) from being a total turd, to being a very lovable turd. I can't say I'm all that surprised you left it off, though it's nice to see Queen made it on J.D.'s list. Even if it was for the wrong soundtrack.

Okay, I'm done being a dickhole. I imagine it's quite maddening to get a bunch of crap from people after you take all that time coming up with a list of things you like?

Eric, you have better taste than J.D. but I'm here to add to the "soundtracks, not song compilations, please" complaints, and also recommend one of the best ever, Taxi Driver.
And I hate Prince and Danny Elfman. And John Williams. Ok. Done.

I wasn't super-psyched about Death Proof, but man was I in awe of the soundtrack. I think of myself as pretty well-read when it comes to music (well-listened?), but QT pulled some amazing stuff out for that movie. Also, I adore your Runners-up.

In addition to the Top Ten Scores, I'd like to suggest Top Ten Ridiculous Soundtrack Moments. These may or may not include:
"We Fight for Love" by the Power Station (closing credits on Commando)
"Say a Little Prayer" scene in My Best Friend's Wedding
That stupid Brittany Spears cameo in Austin Powers 3
"Somebody to Love" as performed by Jim Carrey in the cable guy (this is "good" ridiculous)

Um, yeah, clearly past my bedtime...

I'm wagging my finger at you for overlooking 'Until the End of the World', which gets extra points in my book for having every song written specifically for the film.

Right you are, my friend. Ultimate Fakebook was never averse to a little improvised "Feel the Heat" jam, as we were all huge fans of that movie, especially Bill!

The Batman soundtrack...an album that seems to exist like Billy Pilgrim, stuck in time. That record and Tim Burton's non-specific time setting really does make that whoe thing such an oddity. I haven't revisited in years and I'm feeling some nostalgia kicking in...

I wouldn't do a Wes Anderson cheat because "Rushmore" is the only one I truly love from beginning to end, but he does have that ability to take the obscure and old and make it extremely cool again.
