Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but Hairbrained from director Billy Kent cannot escape its quirky 90s influences to exert much of its own personality.

‘Superman Returns’ has way more going for it than a simple action movie. By emphasizing Superman’s virtual omnipotence and also his sense of eternal heartbreak and loss, Bryan Singer’s epic and lyrical sequel-of-sorts to 1980’s Superman II has some of the same poignancy of a classic Greek tragedy.

It’s a good week for Blu-ray. Richard Linklater’s Criterion version ‘Dazed and Confused’ is out and ‘Attack the Block’ beams in from outer space to the inner city.
