If these costumed super heroes are truly the gods of our time and the films that they are in each summer are our contemporary mythological canon, then these films should reflect our current understanding of each other, including visual representation of women and minorities, instead of parading out old narrative tropes and stereotypes as if they were steadfast truths.

Had Much Ado About Nothing come from a young director just beginning their career, it would seem an exciting, yet flawed introduction. Coming from Joss Whedon, one of the biggest and most established directors of our time, it seems stupid.
Swaddled in the good graces of its literary source, Joss Whedon’s version of Much Ado About Nothing works in spite of itself. Whedon shot this black and white adaptation in just twelve days, and cast actors well known to fans of Firefly, Buffy, and The Avengers, making it a veritable Whedon reunion.
Things got considerably crazier when Joss Whedon made his appearance, however, for as wide-eyed as everyone was at the sight of Captain Mal from Firefly, the evening’s guest of honor stole almost every gaze once he hit the red carpet.
