This week sees the wide release of director Clint Eastwood’s newest film, American Sniper, which concerns itself with the story of real-life U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. Hollywood has showcased the Navy’s premiere Special Forces squad in dozens of films throughout the years, yet a few portrayals have stood out as particularly memorable. Today’s list is a celebration of the movies that took the time to feature Navy SEALS in a badass fashion.
Filmed in the docudrama style that has become Paul Greengrass’s trademark, ‘Captain Phillips’ is out now in a Blu-ray/DVD/Ultraviolet Combo Pack.
This week, Eric and Trevan argue over Captain Philips while Trey talks about Blue Caprice. Then, they all come together to celebrate Alfonso Cuarón’s excellent Gravity.
Ultimately, the film is too long and doesn’t hold up the tension or danger long enough. Hanks lends his Phillips some emotional heft, but the typical heroics of the Hollywood thriller seem out of place in this style of presentation.
We have advance passes to see the new Paul Greengrass film CAPTAIN PHILLIPS on Wednesday, October 9 at 7:30 PM at the AMC Town Center 20 and we want you to have them!
