[Rating: Minor Rock Fist Down] I had high hopes for The Late Bloomer. It’s a story with a unique spin on the whole horny-teen sex comedy genre. That formula is pretty simple: Teens in high school want to have sex and high jinx ensue trying to make that a reality. This, however, is about a […]
Blair Witch is pretty much a roided up remake of the original, except it’s not scary.
Sully is good, just not great. But thanks to another fantastic performance from Tom Hanks, it’s a promising start to awards season.
‘Southside With You’ is an engaging, interesting peek into the lives of two influential people, played by a couple of actors who do a superb job slipping into characters much of the world knows quite well.
But from its nerve-racking opening, through a series of darkly comedic bank heists, and all the way to its quiet climax, Hell Or High Water is a tightly constructed film that smartly tweaks Western tropes while leaving viewers exhilarated.
Sausage Party is yet another dumb stoner comedy from Rogen and his idiot friends. Don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing at all wrong with a good stoner animated comedy. We need these, I get it. But this feels like something these boys would have done years ago. Aren’t they past this phase in their careers yet?
[Rating: Minor Rock Fist Up] Joshy opens at AMC Town Center and is available through Hulu and other places on demand today. The five guys in Joshy are a mess. One just got dumped from a 10-year-relationship. One cheated on his wife. Another wanted to cheat on his wife and has control issues. The fourth […]
‘Suicide Squad’ basically made Simon lose his mind.
Jason Bourne is a slow-burn of an action flick that unfolds as one of the best action movies of the year
Star Trek Beyond is easily the most bone-headed, silly, and action-packed of the rebooted franchise.
For awhile after seeing ‘Lights Out’ I wondered if my enjoyment of the film was for not entirely respectable reasons, if I enjoyed it for reasons closer to that of an MST3K film than that of a truly solid genre effort. But you know what? If something is fun I’m gonna tell the world it’s fun, and dammit this film is fun.
A national manhunt is ordered for a rebellious kid and his foster uncle who go missing in the wild New Zealand bush.
I enjoyed The Music of Strangers quite a lot. It’s no masterpiece, nor necessarily worth multiple viewings, but it’s a strong effort from a fine documentarian.
The good news is this movie isn’t the abomination the prognosticators predicted. It’s funny, which is all that matters and yes, it’s pretty dumb. No, it’s not destined for instant classic status, but it doesn’t tarnish the Ghostbusters name — Ghostbusters II already did that years ago.
[Rating: Minor Rock Fist Up] Millennials need a version of Lassie that isn’t wholesome. Instead, a story of a dog exploring the perverted, introverted world it lives in. Ok, maybe this isn’t needed, but it’s certainly available now Wiener-Dog. Remember Paulie, that movie from 1998 where a parrot gets passed around from owner to owner? […]
