On-Camera Review of "Coraline"

by Eric Melin on February 6, 2009

in Video Reviews

Eric Melin and guest host Billy Brimblecom, drummer extraordinaire, review the new 3D stop-motion animation film “Coraline” and talk about its relation to Tim Burton and “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” All the ads seem to suggest Tim Burton without actually saying his name, so that is addressed– along with the spookiness of a kids’ fantasy written by Neil Gaiman (of “Sandman” comics fame) and the idea of 3D accentuating the movie without being too gimmicky.

Eric is the Editor-in-Chief of Scene-Stealers.com, a Rotten Tomatoes-approved critic, and contributor for The Pitch. He’s former President of the KCFCC, and drummer for The Dead Girls, Ultimate Fakebook, and Truck Stop Love . He is also the 2013 Air Guitar World Champion Mean Melin, ranked 4th best of all-time. I thought “Coraline” was just breathtaking. The movie is soo much fun. I love movies like this for the simple fact that I feel like a kid again when I watch these kinds of movies. I took my little sister to this movie and she was in aww. She did not believe that this film was a stop-motion film. She thought it was a CG film. She thought I was pulling one over on her.

The film Is just visually stunning. I can see this reciving an OSCAR nom, for next year. If you have kids, or any younger brothers, or sisters I highly reccommend you take them to see this movie, and I am very fickle about my movies I suggest to kids. So don’t miss out.

Agreed wholeheartedly! (just got home from the movie) I KNEW that was TMBG. Also I think the fact that I forgot I was watching a 3-D movie provides testament to how moderate and perfect both the effects and story were.

That being said, all the little kids in the theater were blatantly bored and distracted. Go see this movie after 8 p.m.

I dont watch movies, only reviews of movies. Its is faster. I like faster. My new bike is very fast. Reviews are like cliff notes for movies. I read the cliff notes for Macbeth, it was a great story. I can watch 10 reviews a day, try watching 10 movies a day, doesnt happen. I liked this review. A big rock fist straight up your ass.
