I completely agree about the whole "Samantha comes back from California every 15 minutes and some lengthy amount of time was supposed to have passed in between" thing. That was the one thing I said when my sister (who loved the series and of course the movie) asked me what I thought. I had told her before I saw it that it seemed like a movie that you would only appreciate if you had been a fan of the show, and it tunrs out I was right. While it is entertaining, there were some parts I just did not buy. Especially the wedding scene when Big won't go in because he's being a big baby. And then 30 seconds later he decides to go in, and Carrie's phone just happened to get hidden in the little girl's purse, and then in the end they of course decide to live together in the amazing apartment that would never ACTUALLY be available in NYC. It was all a little too easy for me.

J.D.- You probably moved beyond this review eons ago, but I was listening to 96.5 when you guys gave your review, and I don't expect you to like this movie but you've missed the point. REAL WOMEN (or at least the majority of women- even in New York) DON'T ACT LIKE THIS. Those women are caricatures that are fun to watch behave in a way that no self-respecting human being would. You can't take them seriously. I loved the show because the writing was generally really good- even excellent at times- and quite frankly, I could feel morally superior. The movie wasn't great- or even particularly good- the writing was subpar compared to the show, but it was made for the fans of the show who are going to go and like the movie even against their better judgment and not for a guy who didn't like the show in the first place.

I'm mortified to admit that I didn't hate "SATC"; I didn't even dislike it terribly. Assuming that I could be allowed to use the great rock fist system I might give this movie the horrid but occasionally inevitable Swiss Fist. I never loved the show but, I always appreciated good writing even of characters I kinda despised (also how I felt about "Seinfeld"). I went to see this movie with my cousin and she had never seen the show, and she hated it. Some how seeing these characters back and given this drawn out conclusion made sort of happy, even if I could poke huge flaws in it's execution, and even it's general concept (the afore mentioned "do women really act this way?" concept). Loves me a few film makers who will cater completely to a loving fan base even if I'm not really one of the fans. I can't really disagree with anything you wrote in your critique, I just didn't hate the movie.

Aww J.D. You didn't fall in love with the characters? :(

Only reason why I liked the show was because I totally love the series! But I will say that I loved your review, even if it isn't positive :)

"I hope this makes major bank so they make a Wire movie."

I would love more Wire, but I can't see how it would function as a Movie. David Simon should definitely take a stab at films.

I assume you where referring to HBO's "The Wire"?

J.D.- I full heartedly agree with your review. I watched the show when I was too young to know better, and now as an adult I watch and think "do women really act this way"? I think the answer is no. I hope the answer is no. I agree that the true fans of the series will love this. I also agree that it was an EXTREMELY long couple of episodes rather than a movie. It also did nothing to add to what happened to the characters after wrapping up the series finale back in 2004.

Great review!
