Fantastic Fest Day Three - The Revenant, Romero’s Survival of the Dead + more
posted by  George Hickman on September 29, 2009

Day Three was a very good day for film at Fantastic Fest. It went from “Fish Story” to “Toy Story” to Takashi Miike’s “Yatterman” to the one-two horror/comedy punch of George Romero’s “Survival of the Dead” and D. Kerry Prior’s “The Revenant.”
“Fish Story” - rock fist way up
Considering Fantastic Fest usually leans towards […]

Fantastic Fest Day Two - Antichrist, Men Who Stare at Goats + more
posted by  George Hickman on September 27, 2009

Fantastic Fest day 2 brought Lars Von Trier’s “Antichrist,” a Danish film called “Terribly Happy,” a Japanese comedy called “Robo Geisha,” the George Clooney-Ewan McGregor comedy “Men Who Stare at Goats,” and the British horror comedy “Doghouse.”
Maybe it had something to do with the fact that it was the last movie I saw beforehand, […]

posted by  George Hickman on September 25, 2009

Paranormal Activity review, Gentlemen Broncos review, Solomon Kane review, Van Diemen’s Land review
Historically, the first day of Fantastic Fest is pretty light on film, but I still managed to get four movies in.  Of the four, three featured filmmakers or actors in attendance and spirited Q&As.
“Van Diemen’s Land” - Minor Rock Fist Up

What is Fantastic Fest?
It’s an eight-day genre film festival that takes place primarily at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX in late September every year.
It’s a movie-geek fantasy camp.  As a kid, I used to watch R-rated movies in secret and dream. Fantastic Fest is that dream.
It’s a celebration of horror, martial arts, fantasy, science […]

Well, the hype surrounding James Cameron’s “Avatar” reached a fever pitch last week when the trailer for the long-anticipated flick premiered online and in theaters. posted by  Eric Melin on August 21, 2009

Back in 2007, J.D. and I were contestants on VH1’s second (and last) season of “World Series of Pop Culture.” We immediately felt a nerdy trivia kinship with all the other competitors, so when castmates Warren McPherson and Smitha Chadaga said they were making a mockumentary about what happens to game show contestants AFTER the […]
