It’s true. Comedy legend Will Ferrell bowled over Manhattan, KS this past Monday like the Cloverfield monster in Manhattan, NY. In his wake, he left destroyed buildings, shattered dreams, and hollow souls. No, wait, wrong movie again. He left a lot of Kansas Staters in a severe state of laugh-induced euphoria.
Not used to A-List celebs, Manhattan rolled out the red carpet for Mr. Ferrell, who was in town the night before for the Super Bowl and ate at Kite’s Bar & Grill. By the time I got there on Monday afternoon, the entire town was buzzing. Ferrell and the Funny Or Die College Comedy Tour sold out Bramlage Coliseum, and , as Ron Burgandy, he presented Kansas State with an autographed Hammerhead shark for winning the Facebook contest sponsored by his website.
After a couple of interviews by the local press, Will was kind enough to submit to a five-minute interview with yours truly. He was definitely in pro-KSU mode, sporting a K-State sweatshirt and holding a volleyball. I hit him hard right away by flubbing my first introduction. Maybe it was all my nervousness and extensive pre-planning sessions at Rock-A-Belly and Auntie Mae’s that had me over-excited, but I responded to Ferrell’s encouragement with a burst of profanity. Then, it was off to the races. Hell, I even pulled a little James Lipton classic question out and got a little Robert Goulet in return. Will was awesome, a good sport and a true gentleman. I hope you enjoy the interview!
