…at least according to whomever the wonderful, faceless voters who used the Internet and snail mail to fill out some ballots and make my bandmates and I very happy. To go from perpetually ignored to whatever this is is pretty damn cool.
WTF? As I sit at my keyboard catching up on all the stuff from last week, my guitarist calls last night and tells me that our band just won a Pitch Music Award for Best Pop Band in the Kansas City area!
Kick ass.
Like a punk, I was driving back into town feeling dirty with a patchy beard and wearing grubby shorts, just ready to be out of a car after 7 1/2 hours. I couldn’t make the awards ceremony at the Uptown, but I got the news mere moments after it happened! Crazy. We just changed our name from Dead Girls Ruin Everything to The Dead Girls, too. Good timing.
Luckily for me, the Pitch covered the event well and even included some pictures of my co-horts Nick, JoJo, and Cameron, all dolled up and dancin’ and drinkin’! It’s not too often that I get to write about rock on this site, and today I don’t care if it doesn’t have anything to do with movies.
Thanks to everyone who voted for us and anyone who has ever cheered on one of our sets. Anyone who knows us knows why we play, but it sure is nice to get recognized. Thanks again. You must know that we love you, even when we are to drunk or too grumpy to tell you.

If you live in the Kansas City area, we have lots of shows coming up, too. This weekend, we play at the Riot Room (opening for KC/DC) as Thik Lizzy, our Thin Lizzy tribute band, and then we drive to the Brick to headline that night of the North Vs. South Festival. Double duty is always fun, although my arms and wrists will feel like boudin sausage.

Thanks. Award shows are silly, but they are good for spotlighting work. And we’ve worked hard the last couple years. I look back at this post, and it’s a little much, but what can I say? I was excited!
