Doubters of Michael Cera really have something to grapple with in light of the new trailer for “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” the most recent project from “Shaun of the Dead['s]” Edgar Wright, based on the comic book series “Scott Pilgrim” by Bryan Lee O’Malley.
With no prior knowledge of the comics and no real exposure to any of the longstanding anticipation for the film, I literally had no idea of what to expect from the trailer, but I love Michael Cera and Edgar Wright, so there’s not much else necessary with which to sell me.
From the start of it, it looks like a fairly sincere indie romance (walks in falling snow always win me over; I can’t help it) with an indeterminate bent to it. Then it totally unveils itself as the kind of visually dynamic experience taking cues from comics and video games my extensive research led me to expect.

I’m honestly pretty damn intrigued by the whole thing. “Kick-Ass,” coming out next month, looks like it could go either way (overly physically or intellectually developed children in movies annoy the living hell out of me), so a director like Wright helming a flick like “Scott Pilgrim” is appearing very promising and might have to pick up “Kick-Ass[']” slack in the ass kicking department.
A young Canadian nerd in the midst of first love has to fight off his girlfriend’s seven evil exes? Sounds like a perfect fit for Cera and Wright.
