Scene-Stealers winners get greedy—not cool!

Dear students,

gofobo.jpgIt has come to my attention that some of the people who win free tickets to advance screenings on our site here are taking advantage of the situation. This is so not cool. Let me explain:

Recently, we’ve been using a website to make getting free advance passes faster and easier for everybody. For example: 400 people enter a contest and 50 winners are picked at random.

Those 50 winners are emailed that they’ve won two passes and told to go to a website. Each movie has its own Scene-Stealers promotional code. You put in the code and your name is entered as having picked up your tickets. You print off your passes and bring them to the screening. Awesome!

This rules because we didn’t have to mail anything and you didn’t have to wait for your passes!

The problem is this: Apparently some people aren’t happy with their two free passes. For tonight’s screening of “Terminator Salvation,” for example, there are three winners who printed off more than their allotted passes for the show. This takes away those passes which were already reserved for someone else.

So, let’s imagine this: You enter. You get an email from me saying you’ve won. You go to the site to print off tickets and they are all gone. That’s what happened to some winners that emailed me this morning. Lame.

gofobo2.jpgHere’s the kicker: I know who you are. We get a list of the names of people who have reserved our winning tickets, and we can match them up with the names of users who actually used the Scene-Stealers code.

If you’re one of these people, don’t do this again. It really screws things up for us, and you’re just gypping other people who were randomly picked just like you. Isn’t two seats enough? If you are one of those people, please return to the site (Gofobo.com) and release those tickets so that somebody else who won can claim them.

I’m going to keep this post up as a reference so I don’t have to keep reminding everybody, but this is a little embarrassing. I feel like I’m rapping someone’s knuckles with a ruler like my old music teacher from 2nd grade. If we tell you you’ve won two tickets, be happy with that! You get to see a movie before its released, and it’s free! Isn’t that enough?

Sincerely,

Mr. Melin

We’re working on taking care of those who legitimately won tickets from us, so if you have any problems, email me at eric@scene-stealers.com.

I know people who won passes from another site and the same thing happened to them. They won a code and when they went to use it all passes were gone. Too many people “share” their codes and that is totally NOT cool.

Alright here’s the thing. I get why these d-bags stole extra tickets after being given two free passes. They want to go see the movie with their friends. Well get your friends to enter in the contest, you sad sacks. These giveaways are fun and awesome, but they’re also serious business for Scene Stealers and the film industry. Studios give these passes out to promote the movie and they want to give them out to the most reputable sources. If you choose to be a tea-bagger and take extra tickets, you hurt Scene Stealers and put everyone else’s opportunity for future free passes in jeopardy.

Eric, is there any way for you to block these a-holes?

I will alert the people at the door and it’s up to them. Names are printed on passes, and we know who has won legitimately. So far we’ve been able to, with the publicists’ help, accommodate everyone that has emailed me with a problem for tonight.

I knew it was bad when Eric signed it “Mr. Melin”

Just a suggestion, when the d-bags show up, the first 2 through with a pass get in, the “extra’s” get to wait for their buddies to finish seeing the movie, playing old video games for 2 hours in the lobby

I’m just sayin’

probably the only thing as annoying would be a theater’s refusal to let people in as soon as show up. Nobody wants to stand around for an hour! The last time I could just walk in w/o a line was Tropic Thunder at Independence 20.

Yeah, it is an extra annoyance to have to stand in line early, but since not everybody who gets a pass always shows up, the publicity groups always overbook the theater to ensure a full house. So getting there early is just plain smart to ensure a seat in case all those people do actually show up!

That’s just wrong, every pass my family/friends and have gotten we have gotten fairly, some through here, mostly through gofobo (and codes). This just makes me sad that people can’t appreciate these free passes, be happy that you even got the chance to see the movie before every one else, plus you got bragging rights that you got to see it before them, and make them want to see it.

I just went through a recent ordeal with 4 in the family winning passes to a screening with a rsvp code and by the time all of us got our emails the code was already all used so that means 4 people winning passes and only one pass was availble to get….none of us made an issue about the situation but 3 people got left out….not only that other people we talked to at a screening told us that the same thing and same sight that is happened to them as well. If someone gives there code up to a family or a friend cause they cannot attend they should email whom they won the pass through i guess and make sure they have the proper person thats filling your winning slot.Cause i have been given by a family member or close friend whom has won and they cannot attend or have won a extra pass from somewhere else and i have signed it up in my name using there code and not giving it out to no one so i do know what it feels like to have that done to me.
There has got to be a better system like a number behind the code and it can only be used once that way whomever the winning person gives that to if they dont use it can only be used once only.
Other websights do that then only one person can reserve that pass!!!
Its a doggie dog world anymore!!!!

As long as your wife didn’t use the code on her account you are fine. If you each used it on your separate accounts then that would be a problem. (ie. you got 2 admit 2 passes with only 1 code)

isn’t there a way to just take those people doing it out of the drawings in the future? If you know who they are and they win one of the 50 passes, can’t you just take their pass and give it to someone that’s not doing it?

Yep. This blog post is the warning. I’ll be linking to it in future giveaways. If people print off more than their allotted passes, they won’t win anymore!
