How many "Wolverine" endings are there? Let's find out.

wolverine 2009Multiple endings? Different Deadpool endings for the new “Wolverine” X-Men movie? Easter eggs? Links to different “Wolverine” endings? As Marge Gunderson from “Fargo” would say: “You betcha.”

I’m going to see an advance screening of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” in about two hours and I’ve been reading a lot of chatter about multiple endings for the movie. From what it sounds like the movie itself will just have one common ending across all prints, but after the credits roll, there will be a different easter egg “tag” featuring one of the many characters in the movie. NOTE: Here’s a link to our on-camera review with clips and my print review.

This is similar, I would imagine, to Samuel L. Jackson’s cameo after the credits with Robert Downey Jr. in “Iron Man.” Rather than being an integral part of the movie, the scenes are probably just a tease to what’s coming next. They are also no doubt a way to get die-hard fans into the theater multiple times to combat the early leaked version that popped up on the Internet.

nick fury cameo samuel l. jacksonIt’s also like the movie “Clue” (1985), except that film actually revealed the killer to be a different character in the last reel of the film proper (Which is a really bad idea from a screenwriting point of view–did they also foreshadow and drop clues to each one of the possible killers throughout the movie?)

Tonight’s screening in Kansas City, MO had a Stryker scene on the highway at the beginning/midway through the credits, and a Deadpool/Weapon XI scene (I say this because Ryan Reynolds played Deadpool , but Scott Adkins played Weapon XI) at the very end.

Anyway, several people have seen “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” already. Rather than printing spoilers as to each ending tag, let’s just use this post to catalog the ones you saw and where you saw them. So far, we have three. Please add the character featured and city you saw the film in the comments below! Let’s see if there’s any pattern to where these different versions are going. Once they show up on the Web, we can post links to them too. Here’s what’s been reported so far:

XMenFilms.net: There’s one with Stryker, and one with Wolverine in a Japanese restaurant.

ComicBookMovie.com: As for the secret ending we saw tonight, I’ll only say that it featured Deadpool, but I won’t say anything more, as I don’t want to spoil the ending.

Ashley Willson from Timonium, MD saw Wolverine, but wanted Deadpool.

SillySully7 got Deadpool and says the Stryker ending is probably on every print. I think he’s right.

Neosoul got Wolverine and Stryker, but also wanted Deadpool.

Laura says “Maryland’s Arundel Mills Muvico 24 had the Deadpool ending.”

Carmelita, at the Regal Cinemas in Newark, DE, got the Deadpool ending.

Erick says he’s rumor of a third ending, but saw the Deadpool one, and describes it in detail (SPOILER!)below at comment #16.

Nina saw a different ending in Kansas City, which means that multiple prints are being sent to each market. Good to know: “plaza cinemark, saturday 5/2, japanese restaurant”

Paul Phoenix says: “Saw it at two different theaters, one was a midnight showing at United Artists in Oxford Valley, PA: got the Wolverine Ending. Saw it again in Warrington at the Regal, got the Deadpool Ending. Both also had Stryker walking midway thru the credits.”

Kristin from Madison, MS saw the Deadpool ending on Sunday, 5/3.

Bobbys World saw the Wolverine “Drinking to Remember” secret ending in Augusta, GA on 3-May-09. He also has some interesting comments about Stan Lee’s cameo and the difference between Deadpool/Weapon XI in comment #21 below!

Scott Free saw it at the AMC Tallahassee, FL theatre 19, and sawthe Logan-in-Japan ending. “Damn, I wanted the Deadpool ending!” he says.

Patrick works at the Regal in Garden Grove, CA., and says “We have both endings on our prints (not both on the same print).”

ray461 says: “My wife works at the movie theater, so I get to see all the dry runs on movies. I saw only 2 different endings to this movie. The ‘walking stryker’ is on them all. But I have seen the Logan in the bar and the deadpool endings. I’m not sure if there is a 3rd one or not. I have heard that there is a 3rd, but would like to know for sure.”

I am catching a screening of this Thursday, turning right around to see it again at midnight. Just a movie dork like that. Thus I shall report back on both.

A little birdie told me that the Stryker and Wolverine Japanese bar scenes were on the infamous work print.

Well I bailed on the screening tonight since I had a volleyball game to attend to. However I just got home from eh AMC Main midnight showing. We got the Stryker and Weapon XI scenes. Was nice to see the weapon XI/Deadpool scene. I would love to see a Deadpool movie, but fear he just doesn’t have the pull to make it happen. Then again they did make an Elektra movie so you never know.

Was really disappointed that Stan Lee didn’t make an appearance, this will be the second X-men movie that he wasn’t included on. Every other comic movie, he’s made a cameo. Interesting to see if anyone else caught that or if Stan mentions anything.

He was supposed to, and I think it might have even been filmed. Wonder if it was cut out (like Storm’s cameo)…

Is it just me or does it seem like marvel studios is really starting to push for a serious lack of plot. Like Eric said, Wolverine and the most recent Hulk movie are shining examples. I wish they would see that there is an extreme mythology and certain connections to modern society in these stories, that these movies seem to completely ignore. So instead what you get is a series of gimmicks and hooks such as extreme action scenes and nerd enticing tricks, like these alternate endings and references to characters and plot lines that die hard fans will recognize. The best comic book movies out really work as movies by themselves (xmen 1 and 2, spiderman 2, iron man, both new batmans). They’re complete with character development and excellent storylines instead of mediocre plot and nerd treats. I kinda fear for the future of comic book movies but we’ll see what happens.

by the way Eric, saw you at Neil last night. Great show, hope you had a good time.

Maryland’s Arundel Mills Muvico 24 had the deadpool ending on the prescreen on Thursday. The whole movie theater was cracking up. I thought it was more corny than cool. (Although it sounds like that was the case with the other ending as well)

I saw the advanced midnight showing, so far i’ve read that the stryker clip is in every version of the film, and at least two alt. ending are known, i’ve heard of a third, but haven’t read anything about it so don’t know if it exists. But the ending i saw was with deadpool… read below for the detailed clip.

***SPOILERS****

The Deadpool ending is after credits, the camera pans around the rubble on three mile island. The camera closes up on Deadpool’s hand, his blade retracts and his hand starts moving around the rubble, you see Deadpool’s decapitated head and his hand grabbing at it, suddenly you see his eyes open and whisper “shhh” to the crowd. Acknowledging the crowd, and breaking the fourth wall.

As for Stan Lee, it is my understanding he could not get to Australia where the filming was and thats why he did not make a cameo. I saw the “Drinking to Remember” secret ending in Augusta, GA on 3-May-09. I also saw in the credits that the Weapon XI was a different actor than Wade Wilson / Deadpool. I didn’t like this because in the comics, Weapon XI and Deadpool are two entirely different characters. Guess they decided to incorporate this new take into the film.

AMC Tallahassee, FL theatre 19 had the Logan-in-Japan ending. Damn, I wanted the Deadpool ending! Will have to switch cinemas and sneak into a second theatre as the credits roll just to maximize my odds.

Bring on the Deadpool movie! Hail Bob, Agent of Hydra!

I had no idea about any of the secret endings and left the theater just as Stryker was apprehended by the MP’s. Absolutely devestated on how they treated Deadpool in the movie I acted in haste and blasted Fox studios to all my friends. I’m really hoping I was wrong and they make a Deadpool movie. If Goldilocks (Thor) gets a movie, Deadpool better damn well get a movie.

Saw it in Canada – Calgary – and there was NO easter egg. Waited until the credits rolled fully expecting to see one of the scenes mentioned above and then nothing. I half expect that the theatre screwed it up and just shut down the reel after the credits finished. NOT impressed. The Deadpool ending sounds sweet!

“If Goldilocks (Thor) gets a movie, Deadpool better damn well get a movie.”

Right. Because even though Thor has been published for 45 years (in addition to Norse mythology going a thousand years or so) and Deadpool can’t sustain his own book for more than a couple of years, I’m sure the studio s would rather risk their $$$ on a character no one outside comic geeks have ever heard of.

I’ve heard that there are two deadpool/XI endings:
1. Shows XI’s head, which says “Shhh” to the audience”.
2. Shows XI’s head, then shows Deadpool pick up the head and say “Who the hell are you supposed to be”?, therefore revealing that XI wasn’t deadpool, but rather a clone of him perhaps.

Then the third one, of course, Wolverine in a bar.
And just to clarify to anyone who just joined the confusion, the Stryker walking clip is shown on all three of them.

Welp just watched the dvd from redbox. good news and bad news
the seen with Storm still wasn’t on it nore was the comentary.
It did however use the two of the more common endings. As we all know the striker walking scene is on all of them right as the credits start. Then at the end of the credits after it’s all said an done then the headless wepon x one shh showed up. Now this dvd did NOt have the bar sceen (though I saw it in the movies at Bowie MD)
And I have yet to see the suposed wade meets headless X sceen. All an all the “rented” copy of the DVD was no diferent than the theater version. I only hope that the puchesed DVD has all the add ons or you gonna have a lot of pissed of buyers. I wouldn’t put it past fox to release a rental version DVD versuse the buyable one. Or wait till the special limited crap edition. All an all I’m verry disapointed in how fox basicaly punished us all for the actions of one of there rouge employees.

Or wait till the special limited crap edition. All an all I’m verry disapointed in how fox basicaly punished us all for the actions of one of there rouge employees.

So did I, but I don’t remember if it was a special edition or normal addition. Bare in mind I watched a rental copy. And sounds like a stunt fox would pull to get people to buy rather than just rent. I sent a letter to fox asking them about the rental. They have yet to comfirm or denie.

Ah, yes…the ol’ bare bones rental vs> expensive, extra-filled DVD deal…I know it well!

In Argentina I saw 2 endings in the cinema: Stryker walking and the police asking him and in the end Logan drinking in an bar (instead of Deadpool), The girl in the bar ask him: Do you drink to forget? and he says: I drink to remember.
