Apatow players in "Ghostbusters III"?

ghostbusters III 3Columbia Pictures third-highest grossing film of all time is “Ghostbusters.” So they’d be stupid not to make a sequel, right? Hmmm…Well, the writing has begun, and “the plan is for the film to reunite the stars of the original ‘Ghostbusters’ films, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson,” according to Variety.

seth rogenThe catch? The two writers they hired are Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, from NBC’s “The Office” and it may star Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, or some of the other Judd Apatow players. Pop Machine got an email response from original Ghostbuster and “Groundhog Day” director Harold Ramis about the film:

“the studio is hoping to tap into some of the [judd apatow] acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity.”

And a Dan Aykroyd interview from E!Online:

“Well, y’know, two sharp young writers are purported to be writing the sequel, the third movie now. If I could interest Seth [Rogen] and Judd [Apatow] to be part of it, that would be an absolute dream.”

I’m so tired of all the late sequels being done right now it’s not even funny. I loved all these movies and I think doing another one so late down the road just hurts them more than helps.

this is the first i have heard of this, but honestly, i am kinda on the fence. not that the “ghostbusters” did a whole lot of running around… but those guys are old now. and i love the apatow team, and i think they would be super funny, but it’s going to be hard to see them in EVERY movie in the future. not only straight comedy, but also into the “action” genre. first “the green hornet” (rogen), talks of “21 jump street” (hill), and now “ghostbusters”. not to mention, it just wouldn’t be the same without the original crew making all the jokes. this seems to be an upcoming trend though: bringing in the new talent to revive an old franchise. indiana jones, star trek, maybe the goonies, maybe ghostbusters. the “mentor” thing could get old fast. i’ve rambled enough.

ps. ashly, that was awesome.

Hmm I don’t know about this. I love both the Ghostbusters and the Apatow kids, but this puts a weird taste in my mouth. The images in my head are quite funny in a corny/awkward way. But as goofy as the Ghostbusters were, they still possessed a serious quality that I think would be hard to capture with this new cast. On a positive note, if this brings new life to the franchise, I could probably make a killing on all my Ghostbuster toys.

And like Ashly I can’t resist:
Would this mean Dan, Bill, Harold, and Ernie will be considered the “Real” Ghostbusters? heh

I agree with Troy, remakes and franchise reviving sequels can turn out good but I feel like there is less and less original material coming from the industry. It’s kinda depressing.

I think it could turn out really well actually. I’ll never lose respect for Bill Murray anyway. I can’t say if it will be a great movie or not, but it will definitely be interesting. These types of sequels and franchise extensions are natural nowadays.

I think this would be stupid to add new talent. The Ghostbusters need to be the original cast.. IF Stallone at 66 can make Rambo and Rocky you boys should be able to suit up and be teh G=men one more time…Do it for the fans..and do it for yourselves to go out the right way…

I liked the post by Anthony: IF Stallone at 66 can make Rambo and Rocky you boys should be able to suit up and be teh G=men one more time… And I think, that you’re right! Absolutely! I loved the Team Akroyd, Hudson, Murray and Ramis. I would love to see another Ghostbusters, because I am a big fan of this franchise and good movies are good movies, if they were in the 80s or not, a Fan like me just want to see another one, just hoping they come all together again, and what Rogen says about a third one, just fkng dont interesting me, he’s a noob. Hail to the Ghostbusters, for one more time! 🙂
