This morning, 50 winners were picked from all the submissions we got here at the website to go see Monday night’s advance screening of the Michael Bay-produced “Friday the 13th” series. I asked everybody to tell us what was their favorite/least favorite film in the series and why and we got a wide variety of responses. Some of the best are below, including the grand prize winner Kyle Kelley, who will receive a “Friday the 13th” prize pack (featuring a Camp Crystal lake T-shirt, “Friday the 13th” hoodie, a Jason mask keytag, and a full-sized Jason mask!) and saved seats at the screening. Congratulations again to all the winners! Here’s Kyle’s response, followed by some of the other winners!

jason xJason X is the best of the Friday the 13th series. This is not much of a compliment, as it still manages to be one of the worst movies of EVER!
I have to say, though, that few movies have as hilariously outrageous premise as this one. Jason Voorhees. In space. Evil gets an upgrade. It’s the stuff of cafeteria jokes and fan fiction, not the kind of stuff that actually gets made. But hey — when a series can’t possibly get any worse, why not take some risks? It’s not like Friday the 13th is some sacred, undefilable mythos.
Sadly, the novelty of the setting doesn’t do one single thing to prevent Jason X from being yet another retread of the same old material that was never any good in the first place. Jason kills people. It is never suspenseful. The characters — even the One Who Lives — have utterly no personality. They’re not even meant to. They have some quirks so you can tell them apart long enough to identify most of the death scenes, and Jason slaughters them all. What’s the appeal? It’s pretty sick, frankly.
But, although it is of questionable use to make relative comparisons with the other bombs in the series, Jason X does have a little of what its predecessors lack. Like I said: Jason. In space. Burning through the atmosphere of planets in his techno hockey mask. It’s got some camp value, although less than the trailer would have you believe.
And, frankly, Jason X does something right with its structure that its predecessors did not, although I’m sure this was by accident. In the majority of the early Friday the 13th films, none of the characters ever even figured out that people around them were dying, and so each movie was a boring sequence of Jason catching people unawares until the very end. The fodder in Jason X figure out that there is a threat out there and try to do something about it. In itself, this doesn’t make it a better movie, but it’s a step in the right direction. Of course, it’s a long (sorry, Kyle went over the text limit and got cut off!)
– Kyle Kelley

freddy vs jason posterMy Least fave Friday the 13th is FREDDY VS JASON.,.. The reason, Freddy won…. Which is a bunch of BS. At the end of the film they make it look as though Jason had won, but really Jason is dead at the bottom of the lake. When Jason emerged from the lake victoriously carrying Freddy’s head, it was in a dream sequence. Many people missed this but if you notice the dramatic appearance of the scene while he’s walking out of the water, it screams dream sequence, Also Freddy isn’t able to do tricks like survive having his head lopped off while in the real world.. only in dream sequences. Jason gets beat by freddy, not in my world… And thats why Freddy vs Jason is the worst friday the 13th movie. Freddy wins.
– Pablo Palmeri

The first one. It made me realize I was right about never wanting to go to Girl Scout Camp.
– Laura Watkins

The first one if my favorite! The original is always the best! Besides, in the first one it’s all know and you don’t “expect” when and what things will happen. In the sequels, you have a “feeling” when it will!
– Ashleigh Gaunt

The original Friday the 13th is my favorite because I think the sound track really sounds creepy and the suspense was gripping because the viewer had no prior knowledge of the main character, Jason.
– Doris Rawlings

My fave is when its the end of the movie and Jason is carrying Freddie’s head and then Freddie winks. It just means to me that he’s not done.
– BJ Longston

Jason verses Freddy It just genius thats how they brought him back in nightmares too cool! No One beats the slasher King Jason.
– Nancy Butke

I’ve always enjoyed “Jason Takes Manhattan.” The first time I saw it, I was confused since most of the movie took place on a cruise ship instead of in Manhattan. The climax in Manhattan is freaking humorous. The entire movie is cheesy, and that’s what I think makes it fun. The best scene in all Friday the 13th movies: Jason boxing that black dude on the rooftop and punching his head off.
– Amar

kevin bacon friday the 13thThe first one is a classic… why? They off Kevin Bacon!
Serously, it was the beginning of the age of slasher films and it set the bar. Every B movie horror film copied what Friday the 13th did.
– Bruce Copeland

I just like watching the killing.
– donsha finley

Part IV. Corey Feldman, duh.
– Brian Riley

I loved “Friday the 13th” by Sean S. Cunningham. I like this movie for its camera-work. The way the camera ‘stalks’ the victim behind trees and bushes, and the way the camera chases after it’s victims as the point of view of the villain is unique and exciting, and adds a more tense and faster chill to the movie. It is an important horror movie to simply be dismissed. It collects everything appealing about the 80’s horror genre and wraps it up neatly into this fantastic horror package. A classic in it’s genre!!
– Vidhi Seem

Fave: The first one, because I’m old and it’s a classic to me.
Least: Jason X “Jason in Space”, It was totally goofy. Slasher/SciFi film was not a good combination.
– Jim Starks

jason takes manhattanThe worst Friday the 13th is far and away Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan if nothing else but for the blatant false advertising that exists within its title. The last 20 minutes comprise all of NYC that Jason will likely ever see and half of that time is spent in the sewers, chasing the remaining survivors that led him there whom no one ever really cared about in the first place. If we’re being truly honest here, it should have been called Jason Takes a Ferry.
– A. Nelson

I got to say my fave was the first Friday the 13th. I was only 17 when it came out. I was driving thru Swope Park by the golf course after the movie and my car broke down. During those times no cell phones. Had to walk to a pay phone. My heart was racing ’cause I heard all kinds of weird noises. The girl I was with was shaking. After I made the call we went back to the car and did the nasty. i love scary movies.
– Paul Garcia

Tie: Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter & Friday the 13th: A New Beginning
Corey Feldman getting two undeserved paychecks……by far his worst performances captured on the big screen.
– Ben McCarthy

My Least fav was JASON X. Didn’t like him in outer space. My fave was Jason goes to Hell.
Where his spirit is possessing others to kill for him.
– AJ Hall

jason vorhees friday the 13th My favorite movie is the first one….Of course the original always seems to be the best. Now for my least favorite…It was Freddy Vs. Jason….I did not want to see that one because it didn’t look like it was going to be any good. But my husband talked me into going to it. We went to the drive in and I sat thru the whole thing until the last scene where they were coming up out of the water and then a lady in the car in front of us had a seizure and I had to go be a good samaritan and help her husband out until the paramedics arrived……
– Roni Widener

I would have to say Jason X just for the scene when he freezes the head of a woman and then smashes it on a table. Awesome, totally awesome!
– Pat Magee

I have to stick with the original for my favorite. It’s a classic and you get to see Kevin Bacon get it through the throat with an arrow! My least favorite is either Jason Goes To Hell or Jason X….JGTH is hokey with the whole heart-eating thing. I want Jason, not someone merely possessed by him!
And Jason in space? Let’s leave space out of it, shall we?
– Angie Froese

Part 6 – Fave – The movie starts with Tommy Jarvis, who killed Jason as a young boy, going to Jason’s grave site. With the intention of sending Jason to hell, Tommy digs him up opens his coffin and stabs the junk out of him with a fence post from the cemetery. This probably made sense to Tommy because, you know, he was in a mental institution before that. Tommy leaves the metal post stuck in Jason’s chest and starts to leave when a storm begins. Obviously, lightning strikes the post, resurrecting Jason, who immediately demolishes Tommy’s buddy… and so the story begins again!
– lisa

The least fave of mine is Jason Takes Manhattan. Most of the action happened on a boat.
The movie didn’t give me the Jason I seen in other Friday the 13 movies.
– Rudy Garcia

friday the 13th 1980My favorite F13 movie has to be the first one, no Jason, just mom chopping people up in to hamburger. The only sign of Jason was at the end when he popped out of the water, as an ugly kid. Worst movie by far, but still watchable for the cheese factor, Jason X. Jason is in outerspace, wow. That right there is enough for any human, or walking zombie killer, to go see.
– Jeff Miller

Part five -New Beginning, what no Jason? STUPID!…..New Blood, yep, he’s BIG,he’s BAD,great killings and the musical score was fitting!! Has to be the BEST!!
– Tim Ward

Freddy vs. Jason, b/c it was HILARIOUS! I just LOVED when Freddy scaled Jason and pulled the wrestling elbow move!
– Akila Kincy

Call me old fashioned but I would have to say that the first one was my favorite. The rest are only benedictions in my opinion and by the 3rd for sure you know what to expect. I felt that the first one is also the only that had a real story line and you could imagine a mother taking care of her deranged son and him carrying on the legacy if you will. My least favorite would have to be Jason vs. Freddy to hoakie for me. My wife and I love the horror genre and were very hard on that one. I am excited to see what someone else has to say about Jason and hope that this one lives up to the long life this movie has been through.
– Chris and Melinda

corey feldman friday the 13thFriday the 13th: Part IV: The FINAL Chapter. LIARS! (And then it comes back in V? But V wasn’t even with Jason, it was just some dude. Anything after it is even more ridiculous than before, because Jason becomes some supernatural being.) IV at least had Corey Feldman though.
– Josh Dusel

I have enjoy all of the movies of the franchise as they continue to add more twisted and including more in depth psychology behind some of the characters. So my choice is of the sequels is Friday the 13th Part 2: This one does a great job of building on the orginal where it takes palce a few years later. Weaving many of the plots together to show more interesting effects that were great along with different death scenes.
– Lynn Corbett

Fav is the X because its jason in space and the frozen face smash and sleeping bag kills. Jason Vs Freddy was least fav because it was dissappointing and killed any hopes of lepraucaun vs chucky.
– Chad Johann

Freddy vs. Jason is the campiest slasher with a concept gone wrong, not to mention a stupid title, so therefore my least fave.
– Linda Chen

My favorite is still the orginal Friday the 13th. For some reason, all the rest of the movies in the series seem a little cheesy to me compared to the first one. I’ll never forget the first time I saw it, the beheading scene was the best!!!
– Brandon Lipp

Well while we’re being personal, I’ll tell you that Jason X is my favorite of the Friday the 13th movies, based entirely on theater experience. It isn’t the only of the Friday the 13th movies I saw in theaters, but it is the only one (and only time ever) that I’ve vomited at the movie theater. Sadly it had nothing to do with the quality of the film (what a perfect review that would have been), but none-the-less it will be with me forever…
– Matthew Brown

The original 1980’s Friday the 13th. Why? Two words: Kevin and Bacon.
– Hai Nguyen

friday the 13th “3” back to camp crystal slaughter camp for the tragic saga of jason the unhappiest camper!!!
Jason manages to make another grotesque installment after stealing his mask from one of the teens.Love all the hormonally imbalanced teens and love the slaughter kills..typical though for friday the 13th but gotta love it i do!!! Part 2 the path and destruction for 25 years jasons still going strong. Movies like this have an ecology all there own one that demands a survivor to be left to populate the next famous friday the 13th to follow all others. Of coarse the best things to make the friday the 13ths complete is jason and all the blood, tits, and sex!!!!
– richard tate

Part 2 jason looking like a farmer with a bad haircut with his pillow case on his head!! lots of blood, tits, drugs and sex to help make the movie complete.Amy steel acting as his mother perfect when she talks him down she thinks she kills him then at the end he jumps back in at the end…jason will keep going strong hes a derranged movie monster.
Full grown jason on a path of destruction hes a derranged full grown movie monster !!!
– edwina tate

part one is the worst AND the best. It’s the worst because Jason isn’t really in it, but it’s the best because Kevin Bacon gets mauled by Jason’s mom.
– Aaron Hale

Hey Eric,

It would have been nice to mention the “prize pack” in the initial post about the contest. I didn’t submit anything because I’m going to pay for my ticket to see the film on Friday the 13th.
